Welcome to Cornerweighs Natural and Organic Foods. We are so glad you found our site and our taking time to have a look. This is an educational site about who we are and what we do, giving you a feel of what you could find in store. We do not do online (e-commerce) sales, but, never say never!

We started Cornerweighs in August 1996 with a small retail outlet just to see if "scoop foods" in a health-food setting would work. A larger shop was soon needed, so we moved to Caudle Street, Henfield (West Sussex), centrally situated just off the main high street and we have remained there to this day. In the beginning, zero waste was not a concern, rather a novelty and the whole self-select concept was slow to get going, with the speed of efficiency of a supermarket setting most desired. Things have come a long way and zero waste is here to stay, sustainability must be the way forward.

A website can either portray a look better than the reality, or it could be the other way round. In our case it is the other way around. You really need to visit to see just how much of the right stock we have squeezed into our store. A new stock management system is helping us work even better to bring you new lines and give you more of the things you love and less of what you don't.

Our comprehensive range of quality wholefoods includes a huge organic selection, the majority of which are Soil Association certified of mostly Infinity Foods label. We chose Infinity because they did the thinking for us, producing unadulterated wholefoods from their beginning in the 70's. Where non-organic or natural foods are stocked, we aim to provide products of high quality, minimal processing and G.M.-free. We also aim to avoid unsustainable palm oils too.

Our Philosophy

Our stock sets us apart from our competitors. We are well stocked with organic, natural, vegetarian, and vegan foods. Our extensive natural Bodycare, Health and Beauty products are cruelty free, ethically sourced, and free from nasties and as far as we are aware, microplastics.

Whilst we have an excellent range much more is available to us, and we all have different tastes. We can quickly order items not usually stocked in store with typical lead times between 3-10 days depending on our ordering cycles.

There has been a rise in food intolerances and allergies and with them a vast improvement in alternative food product range availability, and quality. Cornerweighs has a wide variety of these products for a range of diets, and this is where we specialise. We encourage home baking with an extensive range gluten-free flours, baking substitutes., gluten-free and wheat-free cereals, pastas, together with chilled dairy and frozen alternatives. Specialist diets are our niche, and we have advisors on hand, who can guide you where to find products and explain their use.

Over the years our range, knowledge and experience has grown to make us one of the area’s leading health food stores. We are sure you will find our service friendly and efficient; our staff is committed to our business and our customers.

One of our main goals

One of our biggest goals here at Cornerweighs has been to reduce plastic waste, it still is.

We all know plastic is a problem or rather an inconvenient truth, but not enough people were listening or acting, we feel the tide is turning. All the staff at cornerweighs are committed to help all customers with zero waste goals. If you have forgotten a container, we have a spare glass jar. If you have forgotten your fresh egg box, we have spares. Recycled carrier bag not strong enough? we can help you take your shopping to your car.

Some of the ways we have reduced our plastic waste is by bringing back our loose food bins (some from 1996!), swapping pre-packs to scoop foods. You will find bins filled with, nuts, nut mixes, snacks and seeds, dried fruit, pasta, rice, baking basics and even old-fashioned laundry soap powder.

Cornerweighs has always had a thriving household laundry and cleaning products refill service with Bio-D 20 litre refill drums. Complimenting this we also stock an extensive Faith-In-Nature, hand soap, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner refill station together with Dr. Bronner Castille Soap refills. All liquid refills are sold by weight.

Customers make their zero waste purchases using own container, paper, or reusable cloth bags. There is a selection of the latter which have been made especially for us by the local Ladybirds craft group which has been a lovely community collaboration. Cloth carrier bags are also available should you forget yours. Selection bags are home compostable with a bio-film window. In-house "Cornerweighs" products are packed using "Natureflex" home compostable packaging.
